Maple Bourbon French Toast
Directions
In a mixing bowl add ⅔ cups half and half.
Then add the eggs. Whisk these two ingredients together until fully combined.
Add two tablespoons of maple syrup.
Now add two tablespoons of bourbon.
Next add two teaspoons of vanilla extract and ¼ teaspoon of salt. Whisk the mixture to fully combine the ingredients.
Place the egg/milk mixture in a 9x13 baking dish and lay four slices of bread in the dish. Each side will soak for 2-3 minutes each.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
You can use a large frying pan, cast iron pan, or griddle when making French toast. I like using my Scanpan griddle. Begin warming your pan over medium high heat. Then add two tablespoons of butter and let it melt.
Taking one slice at a time, let the excess mixture drip off and then place it on the pan. Cook each side until it turns a golden brown 3-4 minutes each side.
Once the French toast has browned on each side, place the slices on a sheet pan lined with a cooling rack and place in the oven for five minutes. This makes sure the center of the French toast is cooked through and not soggy.
Now it’s time to plate it up and give it a test! I am a French toast purist so I prefer it topped with only maple syrup. But delicious toppings include confectioners sugar, fruit, and whipped cream.
